Paul Mescal’s mum raves about ‘amazing’ night out at Baftas
Dearbhla Mescal has since raved about her ‘amazing’ night out as she continues to undergo treatment for bone marrow cancer.
The doting mum shared: ‘These past few days feel like I was in a movie… my heart is just so very grateful.’
Paul is the eldest of three siblings and Dearbhla and her husband (also called Paul) are also doting parents to daughter Nell and son Donnacha.
Nell revealed the sad news of her mother’s upcoming chemotherapy treatment the same day it was announced that her older brother had received an Oscar nomination for his role in Aftersun.
The musician shared on social media: ‘my mum got a haircut today in prep for her chemotherapy and then paul got nominated for an oscar life is so crazy [sic].’
Speaking to the Mirror about her night at the Baftas, Dearbhla added: ‘What an amazing, amazing gift this was to be part of this incredible, crazy ride.’
Dearbhla was dressed by Gucci for the star-studded ceremony and appeared in high spirits while posing with her son at the bash.
It comes after Dearbhla addressed whether she’d be in attendance at next month’s Oscars, with the paper reporting the mum-of-three as saying: ‘If everything goes OK, I just might be. If not, I hope to be there with my fluffy socks… and watch it from a TV screen.
‘But I’d like to be on that side of the world… Life is pretty magical and you can take the hits when things are good around you.’
Speaking to RTE shortly after her son was nominated for the film industry’s most coveted award, Dearbhla confessed she found the nomination reveal ceremony too ‘stressful’ to watch and was folding washing when she learned of her son’s nod via WhatsApp.
‘We’re very blessed, Donnacha was in New York, sitting in his office, Nelly was in London, she went straight to his flat,’ Dearbhla said of how her family reacted to the news.
‘It’s an honour to watch him in this arena, I’m emotional a lot today,’ she added.
‘The fact that I got to see their three faces today, the love they have for each other as siblings is second to none, I’m very happy.’
Paul’s dad told the outlet: ‘[The Oscars] was always such an occasion and even with Irish people like Brenda Fricker and Liam Neeson and all those people and now for our child to be to be in with those.’
