Bradford man fined for travelling without valid rail ticket

Tung Le, 28 of Upper Addison Street, off Wakefield Road. was caught trying to get through a barrier at Leeds train station without a ticket on July 31, 2022.

He was making a journey from Bradford interchange to Leeds Station.

The court record said: “Upon arrival at Leeds he was observed exiting through the barrier by following closely behind another passenger, without using a ticket.

“When stopped he advised that he wanted to go for food. His Smartcard was taken to the booking office to verify his details, he advised it belonged to his friend.

“Following the incident two letters have been sent to the defendant requesting an explanation, there has been no response.”

At Kirklees’ Magistrates Court on January 20, 2023, he was fined £440, ordered to pay compensation of £4.90, to pay a surcharge to victim services of £176 and costs of £150.

In total he was fined £770.90 for failing to pay a £4.90 rail ticket.
