The Shard, Boosh and glamorous Glenn – the inside track on the England squad

Maia Bouchier

Age 24
Role Middle-order bat

‘The Boosh’ is that character who cracks everyone up, is very gullible and comes out with amazing lines… but totally unintentionally. So she keeps everyone entertained, but is very serious and focused when it comes to cricket. She has the best hands in the team and is an unbelievable fielder. I think she’ll benefit from the clarity of role she’s being given to finish the innings at No7.

Alice Capsey

Age 18
Role Top-order bat, off-spin

Alice is quiet, expressing herself on the pitch. She has no fear, is very competitive, backs herself and goes from ball one. I think youngsters coming through are all like that now. She is best mates with Sophie Ecclestone. They are inseparable and have even started to dress like each other.

Kate Cross

Age 31
Role Right-arm seamer

Crossy is just a great team person. She’s the one who would organise a day out in South Africa and is also a strong player voice. She’s our PCA rep and has no worries about speaking up for the group on the schedule or whatnot. She has worked so hard to nail 50-over cricket, and has done the same to break back in the T20 squad.

Freya Davies

Age 27
Role Right-arm seamer

Freya studied law and is very clever – first name on the team sheet for the team quiz, definitely. It was a tough decision to stick with cricket after uni but it is paying off now. An extremely skilful cricketer who quite often flies under the radar. Marries being really consistent with having great tricks, with lots of slower balls.
